Mumbai: A person was on Thursday detained for questioning after he went to newly elected Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam's residence in north-west Mumbai, claiming that he had come to deliver foreign currency, police said.
"One Abdul Sattar, who had gone to Nirupam's residence in Versova yesterday night, claimed that he wanted to deliver some cash," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone (IX) Niket Kaushik.
"Police were informed about the same. He has been taken in for questioning", Kaushik said.
The police said they are presently verifying why Sattar had gone to the MP's residence and if he had a valid forex license to deliver foreign currency, he said.
"It could also be that he went to the wrong house," Kaushik said.
Approximately USD 5,000 were found in possession of Saattar.
